F&Q’s
What does an SU Ambassador do?
The SU Ambassadors will be bar staff for the Backstage Bar. The bar is open during term time from 5pm, Monday to Friday and usually closes around 11pm. There will also be opportunities for bar work outside of these times, including out-of-term time.
SU Ambassadors will also take on administrative and operational tasks for the Students’ Union. Examples may include:
- Selling merchandise
- Supporting the promotion of SU events (putting up posters, creating social media graphics etc.)
- Supporting the set up of SU events
- Ushering SU events
As well as other tasks that may come up throughout the year.
Who can be an SU Ambassador?
All current students, who will still be students for the next academic year, can apply to be an SU Ambassador.
What experience do I need?
We are looking for students who are enthusiastic about contributing to student life, the student experience, and want to engage with the work the Students’ Union is doing. Having great communication skills is important, and the ability to take on a wide range of tasks will be useful. As SU Ambassadors will also work as bar staff for the Backstage Bar, experience of bar work is desirable but not essential.
How does the application process work?
Students who are interested in becoming SU Ambassadors can apply via the form linked above. Once the application deadline has passed, the panel will review each application and shortlist. Successful candidates will be then be invited to an interview the following week. The interview will be informal, so it’s nothing to worry about!
What’s the difference between an SU Ambassador and a Student Ambassador?
Whilst Student Ambassadors and SU Ambassadors operate in a similar way, they are different roles. Student Ambassadors do work for the school itself, whereas SU Ambassadors do work for the Students’ Union. There may be some crossover at times, but they will have different tasks and responsibilities.
What’s the difference between an SU Ambassador and an SU Officer?
SU Officers are elected to represent the student body. SU Ambassadors are appointed to support the operational side of the Union and do not represent students (apart from in their role as a student of course). However they will work together, and the SU Ambassadors are an important addition to help make the work of the SU Officers possible.
