We are currently electing the following roles, apart from the Vice President of Postgrads, who will be elected in October.

Campaigns
Co-ordination Officer

Lead on coordinating campaigns done by the SU, making sure they have ‘making life better for students’ at the heart. Pitching relevant campaigns to executive committee members and to student council members, in response to student feedback. 

The Campaigns officer will be expected to: 

  • Keep up to date with the NUS’s campaigns. 
  • Support the inclusion officer in communicating with inclusions reps, and listening to feedback from these reps  
  • Promote campaigns through the appropriate media and social media channels eg. School screens 
  • Listen to student feedback on what campaigns are needed 
  • Work with relevant staff to make sure the campaigns are creating the change or awareness they are supposed to 

This role will receive a stipend of between £1,200 per year to recognise the work done for the union, subject to approval.

Events Officer

Arrange regular events in the backstage bar and around the school based on feedback from students. Lead the planning for freshers and summer ball. The events officer will also lead the events team, delegating roles and organising their responsibilities.

Being outgoing and full of ideas is a key strength and being organised and able to manage your time is always important. 

The events officer will be expected to: 

  • Organise freshers  
  • Organise and attend regular events both in the backstage bar and onsite 
  • Make sure events and activities are advertised in enough time  
  • Create posts and posters for events  
  • Take event requests and feedback from students and reps  
  • Make sure everything required for each event is ready in enough time 
  • Lead on organising end-of-year events eg. Summer ball  
  • Meet with the events team at the start of each term and keep in regular contact the events reps

This role will receive a stipend of between £1,200 per year to recognise the work done for the union, subject to approval.

Inclusion officer

Dedicated to improving the experience of students from marginalised communities. Meeting the inclusion reps regularly to make sure everyone’s voice is heard by the union and by Central.  

Being good at listening to and understanding people’s experiences and positionalities will be key. This role is about making things better for everyone at Central by sharing student experiences with the school.

The inclusion officer will be expected to: 

  • Lead and coordinate the inclusion reps, keeping in regular communication and meeting with them at least once a month  
  • Liaising between the SU and the Inclusion reps  
  • Work with the events officer and inclusion reps to recognise and celebrate national and international days of importance 
  • Work with the campaigns officer to organise campaigns suggested by the inclusion reps 

This role will receive a stipend of between £1,200 per year to recognise the work done for the union, subject to approval.

President

The president is the ultimate representative of students at Central, representing them at committees and events. They work full-time in the union, managing its day-to-day operations and supporting the officer team.

The president will lead regular team meetings as well as sitting on a number of school committees and liaising with external groups like CUKSN, ALCOPA and NUS.

Experience leading a team will be helpful, as will confidence speaking publicly in committees or at events. The president needs to be a quick learner to adapt to the many parts of the role – from budgeting to event promotion, risk assessment to charity governance – and every day can bring new challenges. Being able to manage your time effectively while being pulled in different directions will be essential.

This is a full time job role. If you’re not graduating, you will need to take a break in studies to do this role.

Vice President of Undergrads

Working closely with the President behind the scenes to make everything the union does possible and
successful, with a focus on the educational experience of undergraduate students. Working with the
faculty office and the VP of Postgrads to support students with any academic matters, amplify
student feedback mechanisms and taking feedback to the relevant staff members. Sharing the
responsibility of student council with the VP of postgraduates.

The ability to listen to feedback and know where to take it will be helpful. Confidence when speaking to academic staff or chairing meetings will be useful.


The VP of Undergrads will be expected to:

  • Deputise for the president where necessary
  • Meet at least once a term with students from each undergraduate programme to hear any
    feedback
  • Chair Student Council (including organising dates, advertising etc.)
  • Share responsibility of minuting and documenting meetings for the executive committee with
    the VP of Postgrads

This role will receive a stipend of between £1,200 per year to recognise the work done for the union, subject to approval.

Vice President of Postgrads

Working closely with the President behind the scenes to make everything the union does possible and
successful, with a focus on the educational experience of postgrad students. Working with the faculty

We are not electing a Vice Pres of Postgrad. This role will be elected in October when the current postgraduate officer finishes.
